Porter Healthcare System CEO Stephen Lunn will be returning to his southern roots soon to begin a new position with a healthcare company in Nashville, Tenn. Lunn expects to make the move sometime in November, and the hospital has begun a search for a new CEO.
“From the moment I arrived at Porter in March of 2014, I have had great respect for the teams and physicians here who provide the best healthcare in the region. That has made this a difficult decision. At the same time, I know this is the right decision for me and my family to relocate closer to family in the South and explore this new opportunity,” Lunn said.
Originally from Nashville, and an avid fan of the University of Tennessee Volunteers (where he received his undergraduate and MBA), Lunn will serve as a regional vice president for American Physician Partners. In his time at Porter, Lunn said he is most pleased with the Porter associates who have worked so hard to improve access to quality healthcare in the community.
Jac Cooper, M.D., Chairman of the Porter Regional Hospital board of Trustees, said, “Steve has done an outstanding job strengthening Porter Health Care System, and while we are excited for him and this new opportunity, we are sorry to see him go. Every leader brings with them a certain focus, and for Steve, the focus has always been high quality care. We have seen Porter grow and improve during his tenure with us, and we will continue to stay on that path of excellence and continuous improvement. As with Steve, the Board of Trustees will be extremely selective in our next choice for CEO.”
During Lunn’s tenure, Porter Regional Healthcare System opened a new ER in Valparaiso, maintained a four-star hospital compare rating, and achieved numerous accreditations and awards. Work has also begun to form a strong network with the hospitals in La Porte and Starke.
In 2015, Lunn was named a Professional to Watch by the Times of Northwest Indiana, and has served on numerous boards and committees throughout the community, including the American Heart Association of Northwest Indiana, and The Times Board of Economists.
Lunn continued, “Porter is an exceptional organization and that is because of the associates and physicians. And Porter County as a whole is a very special place. I have made some wonderful friendships and connections here and look forward to watching from the sidelines now as this community and Porter Health Care System continue to grow and thrive. I want to thank everyone I’ve worked with over the last several years.”
