Lorraine Sikich Celebrates a Career of Over 30 Years With Dyer Nursing and Rehabilitation Center

Dedicated employees are an amazing thing for a business. Finding someone willing to work hard, do extras as needed, and learn various positions over their tenure with a company is a valuable thing to have. For Dyer Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Lorraine Sikich is that employee.

Sikich has been with Dyer Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for over 30 years, and continues to love her work there. During her time with the company, she’s seen it change names, hands, and management staff, but through it all, has stayed due to the love she has for her job.

“It’s close to home and I do like the people and meeting new people. I know so many people, anytime I give a tour, I know someone from school or they know someone else. It’s like meeting people you haven’t seen in years,” said Sikich. “It’s friendly, it’s clean, it’s a nice place to be and a nice place to work.”

Working in the facility for over 30 years has given Sikich experience in a variety of positions. In the past, she’s served as an office manager, administrative assistant, and worked in marketing. Now, she’s the receptionist and responsible for a number of tasks at the front desk.

“I can’t stand to be sitting doing nothing,” explained Sikich. “The day goes by quickly. I like being in the center of things and knowing what's going on. I’m the first person you see when you come in and I like it. I feel like I'm doing something for the community.”

One of her favorite aspects of the job is the ability to work with seniors and aid them in various ways throughout the day. While she may not be distributing medications or handling their physical care, she takes the time to talk and visit with residents.

“Sometimes after work, I’ll take a resident outside and sit with them for a while,” said Sikich. “They are just so happy and grateful, they’ll thank me for weeks after that. I try to do it as much as I can.”

Enjoying the company of those she works with is important to Sikich, and doesn’t end with the residents of the facility. While they are a huge part of her workday, the people she works with are also important to her.

“Everyone gets along pretty well and they always have. Everyone is pretty friendly and you kind of have to be in this business,” said Sikich.

Overall, Sikich has found a rewarding career during her time at Dyer Nursing and Rehabilitation. After 30 plus years, the staff jokes that they’ll never get rid of her. Sikich only laughs and agrees.

“I think I would visit them anyway if I retired.”
