Cardiologists Join St. Mary Medical Center Physician Network in 2016

St. Mary Medical Center recently welcomed the cardiologists of Portage Heart Care and Southlake Heart Care to its Community Care Network, Inc. (CCNI) team of physicians. Nazzal Obaid, MD, Abdulrazzak Kawamleh, MD, and Kais Yehyawi, MD, are the newest members of CCNI – the physician group affiliated with St. Mary Medical Center and all Community Healthcare System hospitals. The cardiologists have served Northwest Indiana patients for more than 37 years collectively.

Dr. Obaid is board certified in internal medicine and cardiovascular medicine. He completed his residency at Mercy Hospital, a fellowship in cardiology at St. Francis Hospital of Evanston and earned his medical degree from the Damascus University Medical School.

Dr. Kawamleh is board certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular medicine, and nuclear cardiology and is TESTAMUR NASPEx certified. He specializes in a variety of cardiac procedures including angioplasty, stent placement, peripheral artery disease interventions, permanent pacemakers, defibrillators, and CardioMEMS as well as heart failure management. Dr. Kawamleh completed his residency at Christ Hospital and fellowships in post-doctoral echo cardiology at Louisiana State University and in cardiology at Tulane University School of Medicine. Dr. Kawamleh received his medical degree from Aleppo University School of Medicine.

Dr. Yehyawi is board certified in internal medicine, interventional cardiovascular medicine, and nuclear cardiology. He completed his residency at the University of Wisconsin Medical School, a fellowship in cardiovascular medicine at the University of Wisconsin Medical School’s Milwaukee Heart Institute at Sinai Samaritan Medical Center and earned his medical degree from the Damascus University Medical School.

Nurse practitioner, Kathryn Gjeldum, NP, joins Drs. Obaid, Kawamleh and Yehyawi in practice at Portage Heart Care and Southlake Heart Care. Gjeldum received her master’s degree and nursing degree from Purdue University Calumet.
