Mayor McDermott Announces Staff Promotions to Chief of Inspections, Code Enforcement Commissioner

city-hallMayor Thomas M. McDermott, Jr. announces Kelly Kearney has been promoted to Chief of Inspections. Mr. Kearney has been employed with the City since August, 1986. He began with the City at the Street Department where he remained for 19 years working his way up to general foreman. Kelly was then promoted to deputy building commissioner and on to Code Enforcement Commissioner.

He is a lifelong resident of Hammond, a graduate of Gavit High School and has three children. “Kelly has worked tirelessly for the City of Hammond over the past 29 years,” stated Mayor McDermott. “We are fortunate to have him on our team and I wish him well in his new position.”

Jaime Prieto has been promoted to the position of Code Enforcement Commissioner. Jaime has been with the City since 2000. He began as a part-timer in the Street and Code Enforcement Departments while going to school. He has been full-time with the Street Department since 2004 working his way up from laborer to foremen, general foreman to his last position of 5th District Supervisor with the newly formed Public Works Department.

Mr. Prieto has lived in Hammond since 1995 and is a graduate of Morton High School. He continued his education at Purdue University West Lafayette where he graduated in 2003 with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering.

“Jaime has proven himself over the years working well with our Code Enforcement Department,” stated Mayor McDermott. “I couldn’t think of a better person for his new position.”
