30-Year-Timeline

The South Shore Convention and Visitors Authority has been celebrating their 30th anniversary with a series of special events and campaigns.

To help them celebrate, the organization announced 30 leading individuals in the hospitality and tourism industry, hosted a staff and board member picnic, visited numerous attractions, festivals, events and businesses during the organization's month-long campaign 30 Stops in 30 Days and built a Rube Goldberg Machine ™ in the W.F. Wellman Exhibit Hall.

In the last 30 years, the South Shore CVA has accomplished many things worth celebrating. From bringing in sporting events and conventions to constantly promoting the South Shore as a family-friendly, inexpensive destination, the South Shore CVA has continuously worked to attract visitors to the area.

The organization was established in 1983. From the moment we were created, we hit the ground running and have not stopped for a break since,” said Speros A. Batistatos, president and CEO of the South Shore CVA.

Some of the organizations major accomplishments include bringing in the Gus Macker 3-on-3 basketball tournament for nine years, advocating for the legalization of casino gaming in Indiana, opening the premier Indiana Welcome Center and John Dillinger Museum in 1999, assuming management of the South Shore Air Show and launching the South Shore Tour Mobile, a mobile marketing vehicle used to attend festivals, events and attractions across the South Shore.

More recent accomplishments include redesigning the state-of-the-art website and the development of a new mobile site utilizing geocentric functionality.

The South Shore CVA works for their partners and the visitor. We strive to remain cutting-edge and innovative with our technologies to offer the best possible visitor experience and promote our area’s attractions, festivals, events, and businesses,” said Batistatos.

The South Shore CVA will continue their 30th anniversary celebration through the end of the year with the organization’s annual ROSE Awards. The ceremony recognizes front-line employees who have gone above and beyond the call of duty and have acted as ‘directors of first impressions’ in the South Shore’s hospitality and tourism industry. The South Shore CVA also has numerous special events and additions planned for the annual ‘A Christmas Story’ Comes Home exhibit.
