Two Hasse Construction Employees Receive the Distinguished Certified Healthcare Constructors Accreditation from American Hospital Association

Since 1920, Hasse Construction has developed and shaped Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana communities. From building structures like the George Lake Pedestrian Bridge that connects trails in Hammond and Whiting, to the IKORCC Training and Administration buildings, along with hundreds of other local projects, Hasse’s team has built a strong foundation that lives on long after the ribbon has been cut.

Hasse’s experience is vast, including their work in the healthcare industry. The 54,000 square foot interior build-out of St. Mary Medical Center’s Valparaiso Health Center contains state-of-the-art medical infrastructure that allows for all-inclusive medical care, while Hasse's work completed for Community Hospital has surpassed generations. Another highlight of Hasse's healthcare project work is Pinnacle Hospital in Crown Point, IN. In addition to this extensive experience, two Hasse Construction employees, Jeff Jackman and Fred Armstrong, have recently received the distinguished accreditation of Certified Healthcare Constructors (CHC) by the American Hospital Association for their extensive expertise in building and managing safe healthcare projects.

According to the American Hospital Association Certified Healthcare Constructors Handbook, “ Healthcare construction requires knowledge of and experience in activities related to:

     Healthcare industry fundamentals
     Planning, design and construction process
     Healthcare facility safety
     Financial stewardship

The healthcare constructor also needs to fully understand the impact renovation and modernization activities have on patient safety, such as infection control, fire and life safety, utility interruption planning and mitigation, project risk assessments, security, and workplace safety” (pg. 6).

In order to obtain this certification, applicants must meet certain educational requirements, a minimum for numbers of years of experience in the related field , and pass a detailed examination. To receive this certification from the American Hospital Association, one needs to be knowledgeable in healthcare construction and how it can affect patients and hospital staff. With that comes a desire to continually learn and strive to be better in this field as technology and techniques evolve, with the shared goal of providing a comfortable and safe environment for everyone.

Vice President of Hasse Construction Fred Armstrong, received a Bachelor of Science degree in Construction Management from Purdue University and has worked at Hasse for over a decade. Jeff Jackman, Senior Project Manager, who received his degree from Purdue University Calumet and has worked with Hasse Construction for four years. This certification means they are able to skillfully and expertly do the work that meets a community's needs and vision in the healthcare industry.

“This will let businesses and organizations know that I have the credentials and the knowledge of healthcare construction, and the specific special requirements needed in this field,” Armstrong said, who first received this certification back in 2000. “When a hospital reviews contractors to do the work, it’s just another level of comparing what service and experience they are getting. So that means everyone can sleep easier at night because they know that someone has the history and the knowledge of the criteria needed to provide a safe and comfortable environment.”

“I am very pleased to be recognized among this elite group of healthcare professionals and advancing Hasse Construction’s commitment to providing quality service for our Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana healthcare customers,” said Jackman, who received the CHC certification for the first time this year. “I find it extremely gratifying to be involved with the entire construction process and performing an integral role in realizing the project stakeholders’ vision and goals.”

The Certified Healthcare Construction accreditation that Jackman and Armstrong have received is proof in Hasse Construction’s commitment to excellence for their clients in the healthcare industry, and beyond.
