Every year, the Hobart Chamber of Commerce gets together to celebrate its members, community, and success at their Awards Night. Traditionally they hold a number of award-centered events honoring different aspects of the Hobart Community, like education and public service. This year, they threw a Mardi Gras Ball, where they combined all the awards into one big celebration and the Hilton Garden Inn.
“We’re expanding it this year so it’s not just the ‘Chamber Awards,’” said Hobart Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Lisa Winstead. “We’re also doing Firefighter of the Year, Police Officer of the Year, Mayor’s Choice, as well as Outstanding Educators. It’s nice to see all the teachers, businesses, and community coming together on one night!”
Attendees socialized and ate a fabulous buffet dinner prepared by the Hilton Inn staff. They were also able to take selfies at a “selfie station” loaded with mardi gras themed masks, hats, and glasses. The festivities also marked the 70 year anniversary of the Hobart Chamber, making the increased scale of the event all the more fitting.
The event's community focus shined as business people mingled with educators, firefighters, and police officers. The Chamber also offered numerous raffle prizes including Chicago Bulls and White Sox tickets, a dinner and hotel package, and more. Former Hobart Chamber President, Chris Perez, loved the revamped event and thought it was the perfect way to honor the award winners and Hobart community.
“This year’s so far the best,” he said. “I think it’s important to honor the people that try to make a difference in the community. Everyone wants a nice pat on the back from time to time. Not everyone is big on awards, but I think it’s important that if someone does something well, that we recognize them and let them know they’re appreciated.”
The stories told and performances highlighted showcased Hobart’s best and brightest. From a beatboxing history teacher beloved by his students, to a firefighter with a long and storied career, all of the winners are people that bring something special to the community and positively impact the lives of those around them.
“It’s such a great honor to be recognized,” said Tim Reddick, who co-owns Toys in the Attic with his wife Chris Reddick, winner of "New Business of the Year." “Especially to be associated with some of the other winners that are sometimes in harm’s way and who volunteer their time. It’s such an honor to be a part of this.”
