REGIONAL FCU and IUN Helping Northwest Indiana Student Learn the Ropes in Business

REGIONAL Federal Credit Union (REGIONAL) has long been known for its involvement in the community and its commitment to connecting with local colleges and campuses to help Northwest Indiana business students get a head start and a foot in the working world door.

Which is why when REGIONAL needed a new Marketing Intern they reached out to Indiana University Northwest (IUN), and found one in Jacob Weaver, a business major from The Region.

Weaver has been with REGIONAL for a little over three months now, and says he is appreciative of the opportunity REGIONAL and IUN gave him to immerse himself in all things marketing.

“I was hired on in November and it really came about through REGIONAL and the school,” Weaver said about getting the opportunity. “The advisors at IUN helped me out, set me up, and really did everything they could to make this happen.”

And now that it is happening, Weaver says REGIONAL Vice President of Marketing and Business Development, Kevin Kosek, wasted no time with making sure that Weaver was getting everything he could out the opportunity.

“They have me doing a lot of things in marketing every day,” added Weaver “When I am in the office I do a lot of reports and email blasts and it’s good to learn how to do those for experience.”

But when Weaver gets to get out and about on behalf of REGIONAL, that’s when he says he really gets to do what he loves most about marketing: meeting and interacting with people.

“I really love getting out there with REGIONAL and connecting with the community,” said Weaver. “For example, we were out at the Kiwanis Club recently and it was really fun to meet with those people and get to know them and learn how we can help.”

And even though networking and people is what Weaver does best, he says he is grateful for the opportunities to learn all aspects of marketing from REGIONAL, and IUN for helping set him up for success.

And now, fully immersed into the internship, Weaver said he’s ready to continue going the extra mile at REGIONAL….literally.

“I live in Rensselaer at the moment, so the drive to Hammond and Gary for school every day is kind of a long one, but still, I love what I am doing.”
