The Hobart Community Center was alive with excitement and anticipation as the Hobart Chamber of Commerce held their Awards Events recognizing their selection of some of the most hard working people and organizations devoted to the city of Hobart.

“I think it shows a diversity of businesses in our community when businesses like these come together, it shows great things happening,” says Hobart Mayor Brian Snedecor. “Yes, we’re a smaller chamber than those that have merged together, but I think it says a lot about tonight regarding the spirit of cooperativeness and the spirit of community.”

There’s more than meets the eye at the Majestic Star Casino and Hotel in Gary, IN. Behind the buzzing casino floors filled with flashing lights and dashing dice, lies a hotel overlooking a gorgeous lake filled with banquet halls, meeting rooms, and rooms and suites perfectly crafted for comfort.

Three banquet halls to be exact. In addition to a business center, a breakfast nook, and a Lakeshore Lounge that Majestic Star Event Supervisor, Karla Coulter, proudly declares “the best waterfront property in the area.”

VisionPoint has a bright and clear vision ahead of them. On Thursday afternoon, VisionPoint celebrated their expansion of their new store in Lake County with a ribbon cutting for their brand new Merrillville location. The VisionPoint family, their team, and members of the Crossroads Chamber of Commerce attended the milestone celebration of expansion and new opportunity.

The expansion of the VisionPoint stores have been swift and successful. It was not even a year ago with the people of VisionPoint opened their new location in Chesterton, and now they’re making their mark with another location in Lake County.

Purdue Calumet celebrating the opening of their new Commercialization and Manufacturing Excellence Center, located just a few blocks off campus, with an enthusiastic ribbon cutting ceremony and tours of the facility on Thursday.

Local business and community leaders as well as students, teachers and administrators got their first look at the innovative, 18,000 square foot center that offers two components of development. One component will offer cutting edge training for manufacturing companies of all sizes through its emphasis on prototype and product development.

NorthShore Health Centers Opens New Facility in Chesterton

NorthShore Health Centers opened their newest location in Chesterton on Thursday with a ribbon cutting and open house that brought together local healthcare, business and community leaders to celebrate and tour the new facility on Indiana Avenue. This is the ninth NorthShore location committed to serving Northern Porter and Northeast Lake Counties.

“We’re really excited to be adding this location here in Chesterton,” said NorthShore C.O.O. Rhonda Mendoza. “The mission here at NorthShore is to ensure that each individual has a medical home and access to the highest quality healthcare regardless of their age, race, gender, or social or economic standing. The services that we offer is basically a one-stop-shop at most of our locations. Here at the Chesterton site we’ll offer OB/GYN, Pediatrics and Family Practice.”

“At Career Connect, we realized the job market is challenged by demographics,” says IKORCC Senior Manager Thomas Dorsey. “We’re trying to build a strong next generation of workers to keep our organization strong for the future.”

Strack & Van Til of Schererville Takes Grocery Shopping to the Next Level

There was a big to-do at the Strack & Van Til location in Schererville. The store just went through major renovations and a grand reopening was under way on August 5 to celebrate the occasion.

This remodel follows suit with the upgrades at the Munster and Highland Strack & Van Til stores. Tons of new features were added to the already top-notch offerings at the store. The changes were made based on what the customers requested. Randy Gootee, Store Director, and his staff asked what they wanted, and then made it happen.

Since 2012, NIPSCO has been recognizing organizations and outstanding local figures who have made strides in improving our region and on Thursday night, a new batch of leaders were handed NIPSCO's Luminary Awards. Many of the area’s leaders gathered at NIPSCO’s Merrillville headquarters for the ceremony. With light chatter and delicious hors d'oeuvres to start the night, NIPSCO’s senior officials handed out awards and helped celebrate the company’s Charity of Choice program that raised $100,000 for local charities.

The event brought people from multiple counties to honor selected worthy people who have made a significant difference in their respective fields. Larry Graham, Managing Director of Public Affairs for NIPSCO, said that the awards have been a stronghold for the company because they are a way to acknowledge the people in our area who have worked tirelessly on improving our community, and the Luminary Awards are a tradition NIPSCO is proud to uphold.

Hammond’s Director of Economic Development, Africa Tarver, was recently recognized at a ceremony for Influential Women of Northwest Indiana as a winner in the categories of Up-and-Coming Woman in Economic Development, as well as overall Up-and-Coming Woman of the Year.

The special ceremony at Avalon Manor brought together hundreds of women from various industries that are making lasting differences in moving The Region in a positive direction.
