SERVPRO Shares Ideas at Rise, Shine, and Share Portage

On Wednesday morning at the Indiana University Northwest Portage University Center, The Greater Portage Chamber of Commerce Rise, Shine, and Share Portage was on the agenda.

Rise, Shine and Share Portage is an excellent monthly opportunity for businesses to come together to meet and exchange ideas. January's meeting had SERVPRO in the spotlight.

"Chamber members can meet other Chamber members and they can make connections. It's a casual setting and everyone listens to the morning's host, then we all make announcements of our own. We have had an increase in attendance with this event. It has grown in quite a bit since starting about a year ago," Nancy Simpson, Portage Chamber Office Manager said.

Two SERVPRO representatives were there that morning: Greer Evans, Sales and Marketing Representative, and Rob Brenda, Commercial Marketing Representative.

Greer was first. She did a fun Q & A session to test the knowledge of the Chamber members in attendance. Those who guessed the answers to her questions got full-sized candy bars.

"We wanted to share about why we are happy to be out here in Porter County and more specifically we wanted to share about our program called SERVPRO Emergency READY Profile," Evans said. "Working with the Portage Chamber has been great. We have been a member for about four months and it's really helped improve our relationship in the community, with other businesses, and in the schools. We like to be involved in all of our communities."

The SERVPRO Emergency READY Profile is something that businesses and homeowners can have at the ready in case of a natural disaster. A SERVPRO representative comes out to a home or business and helps the owner create a plan of action that will enable him or her know what steps to take to reduce the impact of a natural disaster.

The assessment is free and one can expect these advantages:

  • A Profile Document that contains critical information needed in case of emergency
  • Instructions to help owners get back into their home or business quickly and safely
  • The local SERVPRO  becomes your mitigation and restoration provider
  • Line of command is identified to save valuable time and money
  • Important facility details such as priority areas, priority contact information, and shut-off valve locations are provided

It is estimated that 50% of businesses do not reopen due to the devastation caused by natural disasters. They have no plan to get back in and the longer they are closed the more money is lost, thus resulting in the loss of jobs and years of work and effort. But with this plan that SERVPRO offers, these circumstances can be avoided.

"We've been around for over 40 years, and we help all sorts of people from small businesses to really large entities like the Pentagon during the incidence of 9/11," Brenda said. "This profile doesn't stop disasters from happening, but it helps to minimize the impact and can ultimately save your home or business."
