South Shore Cancelling All Train Service 1/6 (Update)

NICTD-logoALL South Shore train service has been canceled for January 6. Busing between South Bend and Michigan City has also been CANCELED.

UPDATE: Metra Electric District will honor South Shore tickets during this weather related service suspension.

We expect all of our parking lots, sidewalks and platforms from Michigan City west to be impassable on Monday morning. LaPorte, Porter and Lake Counties have issued snow emergencies. Our train and maintenance crews may not be able to report to work because of hazardous driving conditions. We are also extremely concerned that we will be unable to reach a stranded train because of road conditions.

We plan to continue monitoring the situation and will provide updates once were able to assess the situation after sunrise on Monday morning. NICTD will work to restore service as soon as conditions permit.

NICTD apologizes for any inconvenience associated with this weather related suspension.

Please note: The South Shore’s 800-356-2079 train service information line remains out of service, as the RTA Travel Center transitions our number to their new call center vendor. Until further notice we are advising passengers to call 312-836-7000. The RTA Travel Center is experiencing greater call volumes because of the weather and callers may encounter a busy signal.
