Strack & Van Til Celebrates Annual Checkout Challenge with Check Presentation to VNA of NWI and Meals on Wheels

Tuesday afternoon, Strack and Van Til presented checks to the Visiting Nurse Association of Northwest Indiana (VNA of NWI) and Meals On Wheels of NWI to help the organizations provide much-needed services to community members in Lake and Porter counties.

On the Strack and Van Til side, the event was organized by Fran King, executive administrative assistant, with the check presentations made by Jeff Strack, president and CEO, and Derek Kinney, Chief HR officer.

"We are being presented a check by Strack and Van Til for the annual Checkout Challenge that took place during the first couple of weeks in July," said Maria Galka, director of development for VNA of NWI. "All over Lake and Porter counties, cashiers at the Strack and Van Til and Town and Country stores asked their customers to 'Round Up to support Meals on Wheels.' The Checkout Challenge raises more than just funds, it also helps raise awareness about Meals on Wheels and the importance of good nutrition for the ill, elderly, and disabled in our community."

"As a result of the roundups that we did at the stores, we are dedicating this ceremony to the Meals on Wheels for the Lake County stores, and the VNA for the Porter County stores," King said. "We have so many charities right now that we are working with, so we try to spread out our schedule as much as we can so that Strack and Van Til can continue to be involved in the community."

"Essentially what the Checkout Challenge campaign does in Northwest Indiana is to help this program continue to provide food for not only elderly people, but also anybody in need," Kinney said.

This Meals on Wheels campaign will deliver more than 10,000 meals and wellness checks to make sure Meals on Wheels clients are safe and healthy. More than 1,500 meals per day are provided by Meals on Wheels to people in need in Lake and Porter counties."Meals on Wheels has grown so much and has done so much good to impact Northwest Indiana," said Rachel Hurst, director of development for meals on wheels for NWI. “People can receive a warm meal that fits their dietary needs." Hurst was joined by Meals on Wheels Executive Director Sandra Noe for the check presentation.

Beyond the checks and awards, Strack and Van Til hopes to continue being a strong community supporter.
