Baby, it's cold outside. But that doesn't mean that there isn't plenty to do this weekend. As we inch ever closer to Christmas and the visitation of a certain plump elf and his reindeer, there are so many things to do across the Region in between seeing family and friends and Christmas shopping. 15th annual holiday show at the towle theater “a fabulous 50’s christmas” – Dec 15-17
The Towle Theater has been producing its hallmark holiday show for the past 14 years to sold out audiences. This year, they have once again reinvented “A Fabulous 50’s Christmas” just in time to get you in the holiday mood.

Deck the halls and jingle the bells! Santa is on his way! South Shore Orchestra will present an evening that is guaranteed to entertain all ages ensuring a unique family event to celebrate a joyous holiday at our historic Memorial Opera House.

Leadership La Porte County 7th Annual Bowling Bash – Dec 15
Whether you are a serious bowler, or just ready for a fun evening, come out and join us - socialize, compete, have fun and score some great door prizes! The top scoring team will be named champs, prizes for best team attire and more. The event will take place on December 15 from 7:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m. at Thunderbird Bowling Lanes, 1251 Pine Lake Avenue.

Challenger Presents Winter Wonder-LAB & Holiday Shows – Dec 15
Join the Challenger Learning Center of NWI for hands-on, cold weather science fun. Prior to show time, explore our Winter Wonder-LAB for "cool" science experiments like Snowball Catapults, Ice Orbs, Snow Machines and more. Then watch the 60-minute popular holiday program presented on a planetarium dome. The program includes the media presentation, The Star of Bethlehem, followed by a highly entertaining holiday laser show. Guests will want to sing along!

Portage Robotics "The Porta-Botz!" to Host Region Robotics Rumble Tournament – Dec 16
On Saturday, December 16th, 48 middle school and high school robotics teams will descend upon the Portage High School West gymnasium. Teams will compete head-to-head with their home-built robots in the fast-paced VEX "In the Zone" challenge. Teams will have 8 Qualifiying matches before moving onto the Elimination rounds. A separate Skills Challenge competition will be held for best Autonomous and Driver control of the robots. Tournament Champions will be crowned and Excellence, Design, and Judges Award winners will be recognized. The event begins at 9:30 AM and is expected to conclude by 4:30 PM. Admission is free. Enter door F at Portage High School West. Full concessions are available.

Meet R2-D2 and Help Support Chesterton High School! – Dec 16
The Chesterton High School Library will be hosting its annual book fair at the Valparaiso Barnes & Noble on Saturday, December 16. Special events include Star Wars trivia contests, a scavenger hunt, a Star Wars photo booth, a droid coloring contest, lightsaber training, and a guest appearance by local maker Aaron Treble and his life-sized, fully functioning R2-D2 robot! Members of the Student Library Advisory Committee will be on hand to help with events and gift wrap your holiday purchases. Events will run from Noon-5 p.m., and Aaron and R2-D2 are scheduled from 1-3 p.m.

La Porte County Historical Society Museum: “Good grief! It’s Christmas!” – Dec 16
Every year the La Porte County Historical Society Museum presents a Holiday Theme. This year is no different. Come and have a stroll around the museum and take our Holiday Scavenger Hunt with you. Try to find all the Peanuts characters you can in our theme, “Good Grief! It’s Christmas!” On Saturday December 16th starting at 11 AM, the cast from “A Charlie Brown Christmas,” being performed this season at La Porte Little Theatre, will be caroling at the museum. Have your picture taken with the characters. It’s a great time to bring the kids and grand-kids and enjoy the displays. Cookies will be served that day.
