The Hobart Community Center was alive with excitement and anticipation as the Hobart Chamber of Commerce held their Awards Events recognizing their selection of some of the most hard working people and organizations devoted to the city of Hobart.
“I think it shows a diversity of businesses in our community when businesses like these come together, it shows great things happening,” says Hobart Mayor Brian Snedecor. “Yes, we’re a smaller chamber than those that have merged together, but I think it says a lot about tonight regarding the spirit of cooperativeness and the spirit of community.”

The awards given at the ceremony honored a wide range of organizations and businesses. Recognition of 2014 4th of July Parade Grand Marshals was awarded to Mr. Paul and Mrs. Ruth Throne while the Longevity Award was awarded to Ginter Realty for 50 years of service the Hobart Lions Club for 85 years of service and Krull Surveying for 100 years of service.
“I’m very honored to accept this award for 100 years of service,” said Krull representative Stacy Spejewski. “Hopefully we’ll be around for another 100.”
Mayor Snedecor presented the Hobart Mayor’s Award to Paragon Restaurant owner Louis Gerodemos, who was there to accept the award with his co workers and family members.
“I feel very blessed and honored all these years I’ve been around and all the people all over Northwest Indiana,” says Gerodemos. “I’m honored to help and serve everyone. I always want to help everyone I can.”
Non-Profit of the Year and Volunteer of the Year went to Hobart YMCA and Theodore Eckels of Eckels & Company PC respectively. Both of whom claimed that the strength and unity of the Hobart community was a strong force behind their success.
The final two awards were for Business Person of the Year and Business of the Year. Business Person of the Year went to Ideas in Motion Media’s own Chris Mahlmann while Business of the Year went to Cagney’s Saloon.
“This was such a great night and I was excited for everyone,” said Lisa Winstead, Executive Director of the Hobart Chamber of Commerce. “When you have a small business like A Pink Boutique, who generously provided our tuxes and gowns for the night, when you have businesses being a part of the community for decades or even businesses taking a small idea and turning it into a huge thing, that’s just an incredible thing.”
